Jazz Band
The HB Plant High School Jazz Band consists of students who are enrolled in either the wind ensemble, symphonic band or percussion ensemble along with select students in the rhythm section who are not enrolled in another band class. The rhythm section students are expected to audition for jazz band. This ensemble performs at all school concerts and several community events. In addition, they perform at the FBA District and State Jazz Band MPA. If you would like to hire the jazz band to perform at a function, please contact the band director.
Percussion Ensemble
The HB Plant High School Percussion Ensemble consists of all of the percussion students at Plant High School. Members of this ensemble perform in the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. The Percussion Ensemble performs at the FBA District and State Solo and Ensemble MPA, consistently earning superior ratings. Repertoire of this ensemble consists of standard percussion ensemble literature along with the new music composed today.
Danceros
The Danceros is the auxiliary unit for the marching band. Students audition for the Danceros in the Spring and are expected to participate in Marching Band. for more information check out there website their website here.
Marching Band
The Plant High School Marching Panthers is the largest performing ensemble at Plant High School. It is the culmination of the wind ensemble, symphonic band, jazz band, percussion, and auxiliary. The Marching Panthers performs at all football games, home and away, as well as playoff games, the Gasparilla parade, pep rallies and various community events. The band has consistently earned superior ratings at all Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) and FMBC competitions.
Wind Ensemble
The HB Plant High School Wind Ensemble is the premiere performing ensemble at HB Plant High School consistently performing grade V & VI literature. The Wind Ensemble consists of the most advanced performers at Plant HS and an audition is required to become a member of this ensemble. Students are highly encouraged to take private lessons and some after-school time is required. The ensemble consistently earns superior ratings at the FBA District Concert MPA and over the last few years has earned superior ratings at the FBA State Concert MPA. In 2015, the Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the Stetson University Concert Band Invitational held at Stetson University in Deland, FL. The Wind Ensemble earn the prestigious Otto Kraushaar Award from the FBA for earning Straight Superior Ratings in ALL FBA events entered during the 2014-15 school-year; this is only the second time in school history achieving this honor.
Chamber Ensemble
Students in the entire program are placed in small chamber ensembles throughout the year. These ensembles perform at the FBA District and State Solo & Ensemble MPA, consistently earning superior ratings at both. In addition, these ensembles perform at school events throughout the year.
Symphonic Band
The HB Plant High School Symphonic Band consists of students who are entering Plant High School as freshman or older players who do not want the commitment of the Wind Ensemble. This ensemble consistently performs grade III & IV literature at the FBA District Concert MPA. Students are encouraged to take private lessons and minimum after-school time is required.
